POEMS IN A ROOM
Curated by Alessandro Keegan

February 8 - March 1, 2014

Poems in a Room is an exhibition aimed at questioning what occurs when written language is taken off the page and contextualized in the gallery space. Visual art and poetry have a long-standing relationship that dates back at least to the early experiments of Mallarme, Apollinaire, e.e. Cummings and the brothers de Campos. Stepping beyond the confines of Dadaist and Futurist collage techniques and the textual constellations of Concrete Poetry, this exhibit puts forth diverse definitions of what can be identified as poetry and how it can manifest itself beyond the frame of the page. The artists of Poems in a Room employ drawing, sculpture, sound, print, performance and video to express their relationship to language. Accompanying the exhibition in the gallery, there will be a limited edition book and a series of performances to offer further possibilities for how the artists interpret language.
